Character Info:Name: Amethyst
Age: Ageless, but younger then Pearl or Garnet. She is at least over 200 years old.
AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon from Steven Universe
Key Points: The Kindergarten Amethyst was created and discovered in a Gem Kindergarten facility. Due to this unlike Pearl and Garnet she's never been to Gem Homeworld and considers the Earth her home. She has insecurities about herself stemming from this.
Meeting Music Man Greg arrival into the lives of the Crystal Gems introduced more aspects of human culture to their lives. Something Amethyst tends to embrace more then the other gems. She also decided to grow her hair out like him.
Life with Steven Connecting with Steven in somewhat of a big sister role has forced Amethyst to work through a number of her issues. He is as emotional as she is if not more so at times, and is more willing to be empathetic then she is. As such she learns a lot about herself through Steven.
Giant Woman Amethyst and Pearl tend to rub each other the wrong way often simply due to how different their personalities are. With Steven's encouragement and and through some desperate circumstances Amethyst is forced to find common ground with Pearl and work together with her in harmony. Enough so to create a fusion: Opal. While this was not enough to ensure they would always work well together it did prove they were still capable of it and in the future they would find it easier to team up.
Sugalite When Garnet and Amethyst fused together to form the mighty Sugalite things got out of control. Due to this Garnet later decides to bar them from fusing into Sugalite. This sets off another series of events that will effect Amethyst later on.
Running away Feeling a little despondent and self depreciating Amethyst took some inspiration from a book series Steven was reading and runs away from home with him, only to take him back to where she was created and face some of her own personal demons. This happens in the form of a fight with Pearl while Amethyst expressed her anger and frustration with herself. After the fight Pearl hugged Amethyst and explained that for all the terrible things that came out of the Kindergarten, Amethyst was the one good thing. The reconciled and returned home.
Going too far After reconnecting with Greg over a shared love of a silly TV sitcom, Amethyst finds herself unwilling to give up their time together so Greg can live his life. She reacts harshly harassing Greg with her transformation powers until she goes too far and realizes she's crossed a line. She does attempt to make it up to him by helping to clean out his storage unit and stashing his extra things in her room with its limitless amount of space so he wouldn't have to get rid of anything. She also replaced a broken picture frame around a photo of Greg and Rose earning his forgiveness.
Reforming When pressed into thinking about herself by Steven, Amethyst does not like what she sees. A series of attacks by a monster known as "The Slinker" causes her to attempt to change herself to please Steven and Garnet. Desperation leads to more warped and rushed reformations until finally she finds a form she's comfortable with.
Reconnecting Due to Sugalite being off limits, Garnet and Pearl fuse to accomplish a mission leading Amethyst to reflect on the trouble that sugalite caused and how badly she wants to earn back Garnet's trust. While Amethyst succeeds Pearl loses that trust and causes an uncomfortably tense atmosphere in the home. Amethyst finds a form of relief by reconnecting with an old friend named Vidalia.
History: Amethyst was a gem created in a Kindergarten Facility on Earth. While we aren't entirely sure why she was the only remaining gem left in that facility we know she was found by The Crystal Gems, Rose, Pearl and Garnet. Joining with them she returned to their base in what would one day become and became a member of the team.
She was there with the Gems when the founders of Beach City arrived, and she was there with them when a talented young musician named Greg Universe arrived and fell in love with the leader of the Crystal Gems Rose Quartz. She even led Greg back to their base after he stumbled upon her perched upon the fence surrounding the area.
Through Greg Universe she met a woman named Vidalia and they become close friends for a spell, Amethyst thinking Vidalia to be the coolest girl, and Vidalia admiring Amethysts ability to "Go with the Flow" They grew apart after a while due in some part to the "Passing" of Rose and the birth of Steven. During that time Amethyst went back to spending more time with Greg as the two of them bonded over a silly TV Sitcom called "Lil' Butler" however they ended their friendship sharply one day after Amethyst used her shape shifting powers to take on the appearance of Rose.
As Steven grew up and moved in with the Crystal Gems full time, Amethyst took on the role of big sister some what, playing with him, indulging him and being generally irresponsible with him. However as her affection for him grew her desire to protect him did as well. The bonded over many activities together including eating (A hobby Amethyst enjoys more then any of the other Crystal Gems) playing games, watching TV and wrestling.
Throughout her adventures with the Crystal Gems and with Steven especially Amethyst has been forced to come to terms with some of her issues regarding her identity, her wild attitude, her conflicts with Pearl, her abilities as a caretaker, and how she deals (or refuses to deal) with her problems until forced. After a pair of gems from Homeworld came and almost took all the Crystal Gems back to homeworld her life has been steadily more stressful as a bigger picture looms on the horizon.
Personality: Amethyst is the kind of gem who loves to feel wild and free. There's nothing she loves more then going against the grain and living by the seat of her pants. No need for plans because she'll find fun wherever she goes...or at least she'll try. This "go-with-the-flow" way of thinking has it's ups and downs. On the one hand she's harder to crack in an emotional situation, but on the other hand she has a hard time thinking for herself at times and will follow the more dominant personalities in the room for at least as long as it is interesting. If she gets bored or strongly disagrees with the person her rebellious nature comes out.
Her zest for life and sense of humor often leads to her being more of a comic relief type, refusing to take situations seriously until absolutely necessary and covering up her more genuine and empathetic feelings by trying to act tough and cool. She does care very deeply though and over time becomes more comfortable with the idea. Even going as far as to sit with Pearl and talk with her when Pearl is having a falling out with Garnet.
For someone who likes to go-with-the-flow and doesn't normally sweat the details however, she has a very hard time letting go of things both literally and figuratively. Her room is a horde of trash and various items she seems to have great pride and attachment to and even has difficulty encouraging other people to throw away things they no longer need. She his a hoarder through and through.
She can be reckless, and kind of likes that about herself. While it does result in her getting smacked around more then the other crystal gems it is also sort of a badge of honor to her that she's so "Scrappy" It does take a certain amount of fearlessness to allow someone to launch you through the air at a giant monster eyeball, but on the flip side of that one could wonder if her tendency towards self depreciation might play a role in blasé attitude towards getting hurt even to the point of returning to her gem state.
Her blunt honesty is one of her many more rude traits, and probably one of the more reasonable and desirable ones. She almost always says what she's thinking, blurting out the first thing on her mind or even simply telling it how it is despite how it might hurt someone's feelings. This can be read as a lack of empathy for others, or perhaps it's simply that she believes sometimes people need to hear things that will hurt if they're going to get over them. Either way it can sometimes be refreshing to have someone so open...or irritating.
Speaking of irritating some of her less desirable traits include a tendency towards gross and rude behavior like picking her nose, chewing with her mouth open, eating things rather then food and making lewd gestures or statements. She does this out of a sense of rebellion against more polite and uptight standards. Especially Pearls standards.
For how much she tries to play it cool about her affection for others when Amethyst attaches herself to you it takes a lot of time or a major falling out to get rid of her. She feels very strongly for her friends and family and will go to great lengths to fight for them or cheer them up when they're feeling down. When the two more mature members of her family (Pearl and Garnet) were having a falling out it depressed Amethyst making her feel anxious and trapped because she didn't know how the situation could be resolved or even if it could be salvaged.
While she began as someone who could be thoughtless and careless to the point of completely ignoring other peoples feelings, after being forced to talk about her problems with Pearl, and being forced to think about who she wanted to be by Garnet, Amethyst has shown she can be empathetic and thoughtful when necessary. She figured out ahead of time why Pearl's motives behind fusing with Garnet and even tried to defend Pearl against Garnet's fury when the truth came out. Maybe it's Steven's good influence on her making her want to be a better person, or maybe it's just her way of getting stronger.
Gem Considerations: Amethyst
As it is canon for her to have an Amethyst gem, the choice was easy to make. It is a somewhat ironic choice given that her impulsive, careless and rude attitudes are often commonly associated with drunkenness and her gem stone is representative of sobriety and chastity. I believe over the adventures in this game Amethyst will learn more about how to channel her behaviors for the good of the team, and perhaps even start to be more comfortable with who she is on the inside. She's already started growing over the course of her canon, so there's plenty of room to keep that coming, as well as to have some stumbles along the way.
Power considerations: List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
- Weapon summoning (whip)
- Spindash
- Or shapeshifting
Amethyst will probably find it harder to keep up now that there are so many other gem powered beings in the area. Of the four crystal gems from Beach City she's weaker then Garnet but on par with Pearl. Now that she's got so many others to compete with it her slacker nature won't do her any favors if she doesn't try and step up her game.
